බස්නාහිර පළාත් යොවුන් ලේඛකයන් දිරි ගැන්වීමේ අරමුණ ඇතිව සාහිත්‍ය තරගාවලියක් පැවැත්වීමට බස්නාහිර පළාත් සංස්කෘතික හා කලා කටයුතු අමාත්‍යාංශය සැලසුම් කර ඇත. මේ සඳහා බස්නාහිර පළාත තුළ ස්ථිර පදිංචි වයස අවුරුදු 16-35 අතර තරගකරුවන්ට සහභාගි විය හැකිය. සිංහල මාධ්‍යයෙන් පමණක් තරග නිර්මාණ භාර ගනු ලැබේ.

External Degree Convocation 2021 – University of Colombo

The Convocation of the External Degrees 2021 was held on 12th March 2023 at the Vidya Jyothi Professor V. K. Samaranayake Auditorium, University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) for the conferment of Degree of Bachelor of Information Technology, Degree of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Automation Technologies and the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Financial Engineering offered by the UCSC and the ‘Cyber Campus’, Centre for Open and Distance Learning of University of Colombo. The Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne presided During the convocation, a total of 267 degrees were conferred.

Out of the above degrees, 60 students who followed external degree programs in the Faculty of Science were awarded Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Automation Technologies and the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Financial Engineering as follows:

  2. Degree of Bachelor of Science in Financial Engineering                                            –   40

Postgraduate Convocation 2021 – University of Colombo

University of Colombo conducted its Postgraduate Convocation for the year 2021 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on 01st and 02nd March 2023 under the patronage of the Venerable Chancellor, Sasana Keerthi Sri Buddha Sasana Shobhana Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Nayaka Thero, with the Vice Chancellor- Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, Rector, Deans, Directors of the Institutes, Registrar, Acting Bursar, Acting Librarian, Heads of the Departments and Administrative and Finance Officers.

During this ceremony, a total of 3621 degrees were conferred, including postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, and research degrees across seven different sessions. Additionally, nine Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Research Excellence were presented.

Out of the above degrees, 215 students of the Faculty of Science were awarded postgraduate degrees.

Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Research Excellence 2021

Professor Shyam Sanjeewa Nishantha Perera from the Faculty of Science received the Vice Chancellor’s award for research excellence during the Postgraduate Convocation 2021 on the 02nd of March 2023 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. Shyam Sanjeewa Nishantha Perera is the Chair Professor of Mathematics and the Head of Department of Mathematics. He holds a First-Class Honours degree in BSc Mathematics, a PG Diploma in Modeling & Complex Realities, a Master of Science (by research) in Mathematical Modeling and PhD in Mathematics.

Prof Perera has authored about 90 international peer-reviewed journal publications and has authored 140 presentations at national and international conferences and 15 book chapters. He has received numerous research awards including the NRC Merit Awards on 3 times, NSF SUSRED Award on two times, SLAAS Merit award in 2010, University of Colombo Vice Chancellor’s Award for Research Excellence in 2018, University of Colombo Senate Award on 6 times, Faculty of Science Research Excellence Award on 4 times. He was awarded Junior Associate Membership in recognition of multidisciplinary research activity by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Italy) and ERASMUS MUNDUS MAHEVA Fellowship in 2011. He has supervised 10 PhDs and 02 MPhils.

Prof Perera received his primary education at Sri Devananda Vidyalaya Ambalangoda and secondary education at Royal College, Colombo.
